Product Care Guide

We believe in the power of pure, potent botanicals. Our infusions are crafted with organic oils and whole herbs, without the use of synthetic fillers, stabilizers, or harsh preservatives.

Because our formulas are made from "living" ingredients, they require a little extra care to maintain their freshness and potency. Here is how to get the most out of your botanical oils.

1. The Golden Rule: Keep Water Out

Our products are anhydrous, meaning they contain only oils and no water. Because they do not contain water, we do not need to use strong, synthetic preservatives that can irritate the skin.

However, water is what allows bacteria and mold to grow. To keep your product safe and fresh:

  • Avoid using the dropper on wet skin if possible, or ensure the dropper does not touch the skin directly.
  • Never add water to the bottle to "stretch" the product.
  • Store the bottle away from the direct spray of the shower.
  • Ensure the cap is screwed on tightly after every use to prevent steam from entering.

2. Light and Heat

Organic oils are sensitive to their environment. Excessive heat and direct sunlight can accelerate oxidation, which causes oils to go rancid (spoil) faster.

  • Best Practice: Store your oils in a cool, dry place, like a medicine cabinet or a shelf away from direct sunlight.
  • For Long-Term Storage: If you buy in bulk or do not plan to use a product immediately, you can store it in the refrigerator to significantly extend its shelf life.

3. Shelf Life

Since we do not use synthetic stabilizers, our products have a natural shelf life.

  • Standard Blends (Jojoba & Castor Bases): These are shelf-stable and best used within 12 months of opening.
  • Delicate Blends (Pumpkin Seed Oil): Oils high in linoleic acid, like our Balance formula, are more sensitive. We recommend using these within 6 months for optimal freshness.

4. How to Tell if Your Oil Has Expired

We use Non-GMO Vitamin E (Tocopherol) in every bottle. Vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant that slows down the oxidation process, keeping your oils fresh for longer.

However, natural products will eventually expire. The best way to check your oil is by scent.

  • Fresh: Smells like the infused herb (rosemary, coffee, vanilla) or has a neutral, nutty oil scent.
  • Expired: Smells distinctively like old crayons, stale nuts, or putty.

If your product develops this "off" smell, it is time to replace it.

5. Patch Testing

While our ingredients are gentle and organic, potent botanicals can still be active. We always recommend performing a patch test on a small area of skin (like the inner wrist) before applying a new product to your face or scalp, especially if you have known plant allergies.
